Bleeth - Q&A
I wouldn't be a musician if not for...my parents who always supported me and let me run with whatever passion I had.
Before becoming a musician I was I've played music my whole life since I can remember. But before playing guitar in a band I was a classical musician. I had some great teachers in public school but ultimately taught myself. I graduated from college studying french horn and a few years later I taught myself how to play guitar with one caveat, I wanted to learn it from feeling, not from theory. I wanted to have a way to express myself that could remain unbinded by rules.
My favorite music from childhood is...miami bass, freestyle, 80's post punk, the first band that made me want to play in a band was Glassjaw.
My favorite music from last months is a Florida playlist I made on Spotify. I've been obsessed with it. Florida has some real gems that it holds. Wrong, Floor, Torche. Also the new Psychic Mirrors record Ophelia is a trip.
My favorite artists not related to music are... hands down James Turrell. His use of light to change your perception of reality is what I imagine taking DMT is like.
In modern music I like melodic heaviness made by repetitive rhythms. I like when something surprises me or when it gets me caught up in the grove and I can't help but move.
In modern music I dislike There's not much I dislike about modern music, honestly im open minded and love to hear it all.
What I like the most about live shows is the crowd. I like when everyone is vibrating at the same energy and sharing the same experience. When that energy can make even the most introverted person yell or sing, throw themselves against other bodies or even jump off a stage.
Our music has been compared to Godflesh - I've heard that a lot on this last release. But someone described us like this and I think it fits: "Interesting space within the sludge genre, channeling just as much noise and alternative rock with some industrial slants". We have never identified with any single genre. We just play what we feel and we like to play heavy but all three of us are really inspired by all types of music.
If I could make one of other artists' songs mine it would be... "A History of Bad Men" by the Melvins.
In my free time I like to travel. I love seeing and experiencing new things and be in nature.
My favorite quote is: "Pain reminds you the joy you felt was real" from "Blade Runner 2049".
If I could still do one thing from my childhood in adult life it would be... playing (causing chaos) in the small room in my Grandmas house with all my cousins that I grew up with while our parents were at work.
Worst thing about the world today is...Where do I start? It's been pretty fucked lately.
Poland reminds me of an old friend Paweł that I worked with at a recording studio in the financial district of Manhattan. I remember one time we set up all the amps in the studio up in a circle and grabbed our bosses fancy guitars off the wall and stood in the middle playing them.
